Lotus Purse
The slip-stitch pattern combined with this particular yarn gives this purse a bit of a woven look. It is elegant but sturdy — the slip stitches produce a dense fabric.
MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 6" (15 cm) wide and 4" (10 cm) tall
YARN

Noro Lotus, 57% rayon/23% nylon/12% acrylic/8% cashmere, 1.75 oz (50 g)/55 yds (50 m), 152 Blue

NEEDLES
US 11 (7 mm) straight needles or size you need to obtain correct gauge
GAUGE
18 stitches = 4" (10 cm) in pattern
OTHER SUPPLIES
One 1" (2.5 cm) button

Ssp Slip 1, slip 1, purl two slipped stitches together
Knitting the Front of the Purse
Note: To work edge stitches, slip the fi rst stitch and purl the last stitch of every row. Cast on 29 stitches.

Row 1: Sl 1, *K1, Sl 1 wyif; repeat from * to last stitch, P1.

Row 2: Sl 1, *Sl 1 wyib, P1; repeat from * to last stitch, P1.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 eleven more times (24 rows in total).
Working the Folding Ridge
Row 25: Repeat Row 1.

Row 26: Sl 1, knit to end of row.

Knitting the Back of the Purse
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 seventeen times (34 rows in total).
Knitting the Flap
Decrease Row 1: Sl 1, ssk, *K1, Sl 1 wyif; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, K2tog, P1.

Decrease Row 2: Sl 1, P2tog, *P1, Sl 1 wyib; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, ssp, P1.

Repeat Decrease Rows 1 and 2 until 13 stitches remain.
Working the Buttonhole Rows
Buttonhole Row 1: Sl 1, ssk, K1, Sl 1 wyif, K1, bind off 2, Sl 1 wyif, K1, K2tog, P1.

Buttonhole Row 2: Sl 1, P2tog, P1, Sl 1 wyib, yo twice, P1, Sl 1 wyib, P1, ssp, P1.

Finishing the Flap
Repeat Decrease Rows 1 and 2 together: Sl 1, P2tog, psso.
Finishing
Pull the loosest of the 3 bound-off stitches to create a ring at the tip of the fl ap. Cut three lengths of yarn approximately 6" long and attach them to the ring to make a tassel.

Sew side seams. Weave in ends. Sew on button.
